Shower Aide

Primary responsibility will be assisting residents with showers and related care.

JOB DUTIES

  • Provides personal care assistance to patients, including bathing, dressing, eating, toileting and ambulation.  Assists with activity program.
  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Obtains and documents vital signs as ordered.
  • Maintains patient documentation including ADL’s, activities, intake/output, meals and snacks.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient and unit care data.
  • Maintains patient units in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Answers call lights and responds to patient’s needs.
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy.
  • Attends meetings and educational programs as required.
  • Participates in orientation of new staff members.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested to include emergency room.
  •  Observes hospital’s compliance requirements and does not create an issue of fraud and abuse for the hospital.
  • Complies with all established hospital policies and procedures.
  • Projects a positive image of the hospital through dealings with the public, patients, vendors, and fellow employees by acting in a professional manner at all times.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • High School Graduate or GED preferred.
  • CPR Certification may be obtained after hire.
  • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing, walking, lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfer patients, lift supplies/equipment’s, considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching.
  • Knowledge of use of all medical equipment such as, but is not limited to, cardiac monitor, BP machine, blood warmer, hypothermia blanket, hoyer and vera lift.
  • Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.  Will be exposed to patient elements.  May be exposed to bloodborne, droplet or airborne diseases.  Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries and illness).  Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. May be subjected to irregular hours. 
  • Possible exposure to chemicals and other hazardous materials.
