June 2026 Community Update

As we step into the summer season, I am reminded that this time of year in Rangely represents far more than warmer days and longer evenings. Summer is a season of transition, growth, and reflection—values that closely align with the mission of Rangely District Hospital. It is a time when we pause to celebrate milestones, honor partnerships, and look forward with optimism toward the future of healthcare in our community.

Celebration of the Class of 2026 with a Thoreau quote encouraging confidence in pursuing dreams.

First and foremost, on behalf of the Board of Directors, leadership team, medical staff, and employees of Rangely District Hospital, I would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the graduating Class of 2026. Graduation marks a pivotal milestone in each student’s life, representing perseverance, commitment, and the courage to step into what comes next. Whether these graduates are continuing their education, entering the workforce, serving their country, or returning to our community to build their future, we are incredibly proud of their accomplishments. Our community thrives when we invest in our young people, and we celebrate each graduate for the determination and resilience it took to reach this important achievement.

At Rangely District Hospital, we believe that a strong, healthy community is built through collaboration, innovation, and forwardthinking leadership. In that spirit, our leadership team recently met with the Town of Rangely Administration to begin early conversations exploring the potential use of geothermal energy in Rangely. While these discussions are in the exploration phase, they represent an exciting opportunity to think creatively about sustainable energy solutions that could benefit our hospital and the broader community for generations to come.

Geothermal energy holds promise as a reliable, environmentally responsible resource that aligns with long-term infrastructure planning and fiscal stewardship. For a rural healthcare facility, managing operational costs while maintaining high-quality patient care is essential. Exploring innovative energy solutions is one way we can remain proactive and responsible stewards of community resources. We are grateful to the Town of Rangely for their willingness to engage in these conversations and for their continued partnership as we work together to strengthen the future of our community. Another milestone we are proud to share this summer is a generous land donation made to the Rangely District Hospital Foundation by Wayne Nielsen. This remarkable act of generosity reflects the deep-rooted spirit of giving that defines Rangely. The Foundation plays a vital role in supporting hospital initiatives, enhancing patient care, and investing in long-term projects that benefit our entire service area. Land donations such as this are more than a gift of property—they are a vote of confidence in the mission of Rangely District Hospital and in the importance of keeping high-quality healthcare close to home. We are sincerely grateful to Mr. Nielsen for his trust, generosity, and commitment to the health and well-being of our community. His contribution will help the Foundation continue its work in supporting programs and projects that directly impact patient care and community health.

In addition to these local milestones, Rangely District Hospital was recently honored at the 2026 Colorado Rural Healthcare Conference as one of the Top 10 Rural Healthcare Facilities in Colorado, an award presented by the Colorado Rural Healthcare Center. This recognition is a testament to the extraordinary dedication of our physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, EMS personnel,  support staff, and volunteers who show up every day with one goal in mind: providing exceptional care to our patients.

Rural healthcare comes with unique challenges—from workforce shortages to geographic isolation—but it also brings unique strengths, including close-knit teams, personalized care, and deep community connections. Being named a Top 10 Rural Healthcare Facility in Colorado affirms that our commitment to excellence is being recognized at the state level. This honor belongs to every member of our team who goes above and beyond for our patients, often wearing multiple hats and serving with compassion, professionalism, and integrity.

As Chief Executive Officer, I am continually inspired by the people who make Rangely District Hospital what it is. From celebrating the achievements of our graduates, to exploring innovative energy solutions, to honoring generosity and statewide recognition, each of these moments reflects the strength of our community and our shared commitment to progress.

Looking ahead, we remain focused on advancing healthcare services, strengthening partnerships, and investing in initiatives that support long-term sustainability. Our mission is not only to provide care today, but to ensure that future generations in Rangely and the surrounding areas have access to high-quality, compassionate healthcare close to home.

Thank you to our patients, families, staff, partners, and community members for your continued trust and support. Together, we are building a healthier future—one milestone at a time.
